Roman shades are one of the hottest custom window treatments out there today.  They soften a room with fabric, rather than a harsher blind.  Yet, they function in a similar way.

Of course, it can get a little confusing because there are different types of roman shades, from flat to relaxed to london;  all a little different depending on the type of look you are trying to achieve.

So, in the next several blog posts, we are going to break it down for our readers.

Classic Flat Roman Shade

We will start with the classic flat because it is probably the simplest to understand.  Always timeless, classic flat romans offer a straight finished draw, providing clean simple pleats when raised.

All you need is a great looking fabric, and your room will get an instant wow factor with this type of treatment.  Our cord lock system and encased mesh cords  (govt. approved) allows for easy raising and lowering of the shades for privacy.

Solid linen shades, like shown above, are a great way to add softness to a room.  Simple and classic, a timeless look that always be in style.  But, options don’t have to stop here.

There are also ways to customize a solid fabric with the flat roman shade. We offer both ribbon banding, in a greek key design or straight design.  We also can make banding from fabric.  Illustrated below are several of our recent projects that include banding.

The roman shades above were created from creamy white linen fabric and extra wide 2 1/2 inch banding.

Below, a Greek Key design in pink, creates fun atmosphere for a little girl’s new bedroom makeover.

We can also create banding from a contrasting fabric sewn on the edge of the shade.  Below green and gray compliment each other on this fabric banded shade.

With all of the great banding and trim options now available, it easier than ever to create your own uniquely inspire designs.  Fringe Market is one of our current favorite places for trim.

A self pleating ruffle is another great looking trim to add to a roman shade.  You can see how it enhances this already great looking paisley fabric.

So, now your creative juices are flowing and you are beginning to formulate a plan for what kind of shades, trim, fabric you want.  Here’s what we need from you:

1.  Inside or outside mount.  If you are sure, check out our blog post on how to decide.

2. Your window measurements.  Our youtube channel can help you with any questions you might have.

3. Your fabric choice:  you can supply or own our choose from our fabrics.

4.  Cord Lock placement.  Typical placement is right side, but left can be done, also.

5.  Standard premium lining or blackout lining

6.  Special trims or banding choices

Our shades:

All of our shades conform to the current Government Standards for roman shades.  We use an enclosed mesh casing for the cords.   We use a cord lock system and provide a plastic cleat for securing encased cords.  Our shades come with metal rods versus wooden dowels  to provided a more weighted look, making the shades hang better.

In our next blog post, we will discuss the relaxed roman shade.  Stay tuned.
